Summer Programs in Ecuador

Ecuador is a small country in South America, popular for its diverse wildlife and nature. You can experience some Andean mountain sights, visit tropical jungles or sunbathe on Pacific beaches. Its population is about 14 million people, and a large portion of it belongs to different ethnic groups: some of them speak Quichua, a language of Inca origin.

Many volunteers are needed in Ecuador to assist in hospitals and childcare centers, to teach English, to help children with disabilities, or to be part of projects to protect the welfare and environment in the Amazon and Galapagos islands.

Previous volunteers have shared with us that they could clearly see how much of a difference their help made and how thankful the locals were. Ecuador is a very welcoming country, where volunteers and interns will establish some great friendships.

Being part of one of these projects makes volunteers be resourceful and use their sense of humor. Many participants feel that they have become a better person after living with these Ecuadorian communities and volunteering for them.

What’s included in our fair-cost policy?

All our programs include a fixed price Registration Fee of US$249 and a Program Fee that varies according to the duration of the program and the services included.

The Registration Fee covers the costs of all that Connecting Worlds has to do in order to organise the experience in an efficient manner and offer each participant a quality program. These costs include marketing, staff salaries, travel costs of staff who visit and inspect each of the programs on offer and Connecting Worlds’ solidarity fund among others. We need this fee just to sustain the organization.

The Program Fee is the total cost of everything related to the services that the volunteer will be able to take advantage of upon arrival to the destination of their choice. For example, accommodation, meals, transfers, the donation made to the volunteer project, welcome orientation and constant 24/7 support. The payment for this fee goes directly to the country in which the volunteer will be stationed, directly benefiting the local community. It’s a fee which helps organisations that work in the country associated with the program at hand to move forwards with their projects and generate work opportunities for the local community.

Thanks to our fair-cost policy, the volunteer benefits from not having to pay high fees and our local partners benefit from being able to invest in their projects and keep things moving forwards. Connecting Worlds also benefits from keeping the costs of its programs as low as possible because we get the opportunity to support local communities and make a difference in our own small but important way.

Medical Volunteering and Internship

This Medical Volunteering and Internship Program is highly recommended for medical students and health professionals of every discipline. It takes place in Ecuador’s beautiful capital city, Quito. Here, volunteers may help those in need in the community who require medical assistance, while at the same time they can experience the culture, language and sights of this lovely place.

Based on their qualifications and previous experience, volunteers will be able to work and/or observe in local health facilities. A good level of Spanish is required, although our local partners may arrange medical-Spanish language lessons in Quito.

A large section of Ecuadorian society is suffering the effects of high poverty levels and a poorly-resourced healthcare system. They are in desperate need of medical volunteers to compensate for the need of doctors and a wider public health system. This project in Quito is ideal for students or graduate professionals who are willing to help less fortunate ones.

Project Highlights:

  • Medically assist the residents in Quito in essential needs, based on volunteer’s skills and training
  • Improve the health and well-being of the people of Quito significantly
  • Live with other volunteers and make new like-minded friends
  • Learn about the Ecuadorian people and culture
