Teaching English in Vietnam-Volunteer program
Vietnam is a great destination in South Asia for volunteers who wish to help people that are still suffering the effects of a war that took place more than 30 years ago. Recovering from such event has not been completed yet, as there is still poverty, and social and health-related problems.
CWAbroad’s partner organization located in Hanoi, started functioning in 2005 and has not stopped growing since then. They are now in charge of arranging a variety of volunteering projects.
Being a volunteer in Vietnam will give you the gratification of improving the lives of a number of people who have little access to healthcare and educational and economic opportunities. They will be totally grateful and eager to welcome you to their community, culture and lifestyle.
Our local partner in Vietnam will guide and support you throughout your volunteering journey. Your work may include teaching orphaned children, improving poor women’s living situation, promoting education concerning environmental conservation and bio-diversity, and eco-tourism in national parks. This NGO is also working on renovating schools, housing and orphanages, and they are currently improving their own center for disabled children.
What’s included in our fair-cost policy?
All our programs include a fixed price Registration Fee of US$249 and a Program Fee that varies according to the duration of the program and the services included.
The Registration Fee covers the costs of all that Connecting Worlds has to do in order to organise the experience in an efficient manner and offer each participant a quality program. These costs include marketing, staff salaries, travel costs of staff who visit and inspect each of the programs on offer and Connecting Worlds’ solidarity fund among others. We need this fee just to sustain the organization.
The Program Fee is the total cost of everything related to the services that the volunteer will be able to take advantage of upon arrival to the destination of their choice. For example, accommodation, meals, transfers, the donation made to the volunteer project, welcome orientation and constant 24/7 support. The payment for this fee goes directly to the country in which the volunteer will be stationed, directly benefiting the local community. It’s a fee which helps organisations that work in the country associated with the program at hand to move forwards with their projects and generate work opportunities for the local community.
Thanks to our fair-cost policy, the volunteer benefits from not having to pay high fees and our local partners benefit from being able to invest in their projects and keep things moving forwards. Connecting Worlds also benefits from keeping the costs of its programs as low as possible because we get the opportunity to support local communities and make a difference in our own small but important way.
Most volunteers who take part in this project teach English to tourism students at college in Ho Chi Minh. These students usually have a beginner to intermediate level of English, so they need help to improve their language skills. Although its availability is limited, there is English-teaching work to do in local Vietnamese educational and health-related institutions and community centers. Many schools do not have enough English teachers, so it is great indeed that English-speaking volunteers can offer such help to these students.
Most volunteers in this program will mostly help students to improve their speaking and listening skills, but also their vocabulary and spelling. Volunteers should follow a syllabus and assist local teachers in classroom management, and organizing other activities in class. You do not need to be qualified or experienced to be part of this program, but we encourage you to be prepared by obtaining a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate, or taking some relevant TEFL course.
