Special Needs/Childcare

War in Vietnam has ended many years ago, but its effects are still ongoing and especially affect the child population. Locals are in need of volunteers who want to have the chance to looking after children in childcare institutions or orphanages, or taking care of disabled children in schools, hospitals or community clinics.

Volunteers’ tasks in these locations are varied depending on the institution. Yet, some of the expected activities include helping locals to provide rehabilitation exercises and therapy to children, educating children through games and arts, assisting with some renovation and fundraising initiatives, teaching English to the local workers and more. All of this helps the organization ensure that they will have the necessary funds to keep on working for the children.

Medical

CW Abroad offers Medical volunteering experiences in Ho Chi Minh, with the help of our local partners. In every case, each intern will work together with a full-time professional doctor or nurse on daily shifts in hospitals that focus on Orthopedics and Rehabilitation.

Volunteers will be able to experience working in a Vietnamese hospital first-hard, but their tasks will vary depending on their qualifications and experience. You may observe surgeries, help with basic procedures, and interact with patients before or after an operation. However, it is crucial to point out that volunteers only observe or assist with small tasks. The local health professionals are also interested in learning about medical work in your country, so it’s great that you can share your insight!

Bear in mind that a volunteer may be part of this program for at least 2 weeks (including Orientation), and they will be charged US$ 25 for each week they stay, which pays for the training and resources that they used during the program. The Program Fee that CW Abroad quotes for you will include this surcharge. As volunteers will deal with delicate health issues in this program, they will have to submit a copy of their qualifications in a relevant medical field to our partner organization in Vietnam.

Teaching English

Most volunteers who take part in this project teach English to tourism students at college in Ho Chi Minh. These students usually have a beginner to intermediate level of English, so they need help to improve their language skills. Although its availability is limited, there is English-teaching work to do in local Vietnamese educational and health-related institutions and community centers. Many schools do not have enough English teachers, so it is great indeed that English-speaking volunteers can offer such help to these students.

Most volunteers in this program will mostly help students to improve their speaking and listening skills, but also their vocabulary and spelling. Volunteers should follow a syllabus and assist local teachers in classroom management, and organizing other activities in class. You do not need to be qualified or experienced to be part of this program, but we encourage you to be prepared by obtaining a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate, or taking some relevant TEFL course.
