4 movies to travel while staying home

As we spend day after day at home, our minds often go back to those beautiful trips to exciting cities or exotic places we were once able to do. We share pictures of past holidays on social media and we think about how happy we were, maybe without even knowing it. And while it’s very important that we all should stay at home, for the time being, you shouldn't forget there are always ways in which we can travel with our imagination: movies!

Good films about travelling to different parts of the world will help you get distracted during these times and allow you to enjoy a great story while remembering past experiences or thinking about the destinations we would love to travel to when this ends. So, here are 4 films you can’t miss during this quarantine!

Midnight in Paris (2011)

What is more beautiful than Paris? 1920’s Paris. This fantasy comedy film written and directed by Woody Allen follows a screenwriter travels back in time each night at midnight. The movie explores themes of nostalgia and modernism. The film, which opens with a 3 1⁄2-minute postcard-view montage of Paris, showing some of the iconic tourist sites, is a beautiful love letter to the French city.

In this movie, British retirees travel to India to take up residence in what they’ve been told is a newly restored hotel. Less luxurious than advertised, the Marigold Hotel nevertheless slowly begins to charm in unexpected ways. Most of the filming took place in the Indian state of Rajasthan, including the cities of Jaipur and Udaipur. Apart from being a wonderful story, the movie is a showcase for India, which is beautifully shot in all its color and diversity.

The Motorcycle Diaries (2004)

Diarios de motocicleta is a 2004 biopic about the journey of the 23-year-old Ernesto Guevara, who would later become internationally known as the revolutionary ‘Che’ Guevara. The film recounts the 1952 expedition, initially by motorcycle, across South America by Guevara and his loyal friend Alberto Granado. The film is both a coming-of-age story and a road movie: In a journey that lasts eight months, the partners travel over 8,700 miles from Argentina through Chile, Peru, and Colombia to Venezuela

Before Sunrise (1995)

This American-Austrian romantic drama film directed film follows Jesse, a young American man, and Céline, a young French woman. They meet on a train and disembark in Vienna, where they spend the night wandering around the city and getting to know each other. Because Before Sunrise has a beautifully minimalistic plot, this is a great movie to experience the city of Vienna. All we have to do is follow Jesse and Céline as they walk around this wonderful shot city.
